Every March, in conjunction with California’s designated César Chávez Day of Service and Learning (a holiday in eight states), HandsOn Bay Area (HOBA) celebrates the life and values of César E. Chávez. We celebrate César Chávez Day of Service and Learning through innovative, fun, and rewarding community service-learning projects aimed at bringing communities together to improve their neighborhoods following César’s Core Values: Service to Others, Sacrifice, A Preference to Help the Most Needy, Determination, Non-Violence, Acceptance of All People, Respect for Life and the Environment, Celebrating Community, Knowledge, Innovation.
The late Senator Robert Kennedy called César E. Chávez, "One of the heroic figures of our time." As a testimony to his lifelong contributions to humanity, he received the highest civilian awards from the United States and Mexico, the Presidential Medal of Freedom and the Aguila Azteca, respectively.
This is the legacy that we celebrate and seek to share with our children and all Californians through the César Chávez Day of Service and Learning.
