SPECIAL PROJECT! Emergency Preparedness at Oakland Chinatown StreetFest

Come out and join HandsOn Bay Area, The Allstate Foundation, Points of Light, and fellow community volunteers during a fun filled day of service!
Our collective team of volunteers will work together to operate a booth that focuses on the importance of disaster preparedness. Volunteers will assist community members by providing disaster preparedness information and creating free starter disaster kits which include a flashlight, first aid kit, cleaning supplies and other items proven to keep people safe and prepared.
The whole group will be working together with the booth as the main hub and everyone working around it. Greeting community members, assisting with putting together kits, helping folks fill out a quick survey, taking photos, getting community members to stop by the booth, etc. Volunteers will also help out with set-up and breakdown depending on what shift you sign up for.

Our booth will be part of the larger event, Oakland Chinatown StreetFest 2015. "Going into its 27th year, the Chinatown StreetFest has firmly established itself as one of the most impressive and dynamic events the Bay Area. The annual event held every year on the fourth weekend of August attracting crowds of tens of thousands of attendees over a two day period. The event showcases the vitality of this historically significant, commercial and cultural region of Oakland."

LUNCH & T-SHIRTS WILL BE PROVIDED FOR ALL VOLUNTEERS

Allstate Good & Ready Campaign

Eighty-five percent of Americans are not prepared for disaster and 62 percent don’t have any type of emergency kit prepared.
Nearly half of Americans lack emergency supplies for use in the event of a disaster, and more than half of parents do not have a designated meeting place in case of a disaster.
Poor disaster preparation leads to a needless loss of property and lives, and The Allstate Foundation and Points of Light are partnering to do something about it. They’re sponsoring a 14-city tour and education campaign to inform Americans about the importance of disaster preparedness, and to give residents the opportunity to prepare free disaster kits.
