GARDEN: Nature in the City

The Backyard Native Plant Nursery Network (BYNN) grows plants from hand-collected local seed for our habitat restoration programs. Every year, the BYNN grows thousands of plants that support butterflies, bees, songbirds, spiders, beetles, and so much more.  We also raise funds for Nature in the City by selling our plants to Friends of the Urban Forest and others.

Volunteer tasks may include sowing seeds in flats, hand-seed-collection and processing, mixing soils, spreading mulch along pathways, transplanting seedlings, taking flats and 1-gallon plants home to raise in your own backyard and bringing them back for winter planting––be prepared to get dirty! Please bring a water bottle, hat and sunscreen. Sturdy, closed-toed shoes are required.

Arizmendi Bakery provides Nature in the City with pastries for volunteers. In addition, there will be water onsite. Volunteer also receive a complimentary Nature in the City map.
