GARDEN: California Rare Fruit Growers
SCV-CRFG maintains a stone fruit and fig orchard at Emma Prusch Farm Park in San Jose. and they have regularly scheduled work parties in the orchard where they perform a variety of orchard maintenance tasks.
Volunteers will need to head towards the shed at the back of the orchard near the corner of S. King Road and Story Road. The ground is uneven, so please wear sturdy shoes. Gardening gloves are good to bring if you have them. A hat is recommended to help keep the sun off. It can be chilly in the morning, depending on time of year, so a fleece may be good to have, though we often warm up as the work begins!
Orchard tasks may include weeding, watering, mulching, building basins, pruning, thinning. On occasion there may be new trees to plant, old trees to remove, or new varieties to graft onto existing trees. Tasks will vary from month to month depending on what is needed.
Water is provided, though volunteers are encouraged to bring their own reusable water bottle so that we don't generate so much plastic waste.
Age Minimum (with Adult): 14+, Minimum Age:16+
