FOOD: SoMa Salvation Army Food Pantry

Project Overview

Help support underserved families and seniors at the Salvation Army's weekly Food Pantry. The Salvation Army Food Pantry is a no-cost program designed to nourish clients from the inside out.

Volunteers will be unloading, sorting, and bagging food, helping with check-in, managing the line, and cleaning up.

About the Salvation Army Food Pantry

The Salvation Army addresses food insecurity by providing food to an average of 156,000 guests every single day. In addition to addressing the immediate symptoms of food insecurity, the food pantry and other programs are designed to help identify and treat its root cause.

Project Requirements & Important Notes

  • By signing up for this project, you are agreeing to your name being checked on the National Sex Offenders Public site by the Salvation Army. If this is an issue please consider signing up for other projects without required checks

  • Volunteers should wear comfortable clothing (layers are recommended) and closed-toed shoes are required

  • Bilingual volunteers (Either Mandarin or Cantonese / English) are strongly encouraged to register

  • Please do your part in keeping our community healthy. If you are immuno-compromised, at increased risk for severe illness, or feeling sick at all, please decline your registration to the event and register for a project at a less risky time. For additional resources and guidance on how to keep yourself healthy, visit the CDC website.

If you are interested in signing up as a group, please email sarah@handsonbayarea.org. For a one-time $50 group sign-up fee, we can assist your team with signing up. Please note we are unable to customize our commUNITY calendar projects and are unable to increase the number of spots that are available. For groups wanting a custom project, please refer to our corporate volunteering program.
