GARDEN: Magic
Since 1979, Magic, a Palo Alto-based public service organization, has worked in partnership with Stanford University to regenerate native California oaks on university lands. Through this collaboration, begun just before Stanford’s centennial and dubbed Planting for the Second Hundred Years, more than 10,000 volunteers have established over 2,000 oaks and tens of thousands of other native plants. We plant in winter, weed in spring, water in summer and autumn, and do other oak habitat stewardship work year-round. Volunteers make new friends, learn about local ecosystems, enjoy the out-of-doors, exercise, and work for common good. Magic offers Planting for the Second Hundred Years and other programs to demonstrate how people can practice valuescience—scientific methods and principles applied to questions of value—to discern and further common good. Please join us!
