DIGITAL DIALOGUE: Taking Action in Language
Since 1984, Larkin Street Youth Services has given more than 75,000 young people a safe place to rebuild their lives. They provide housing, education and employment training, and health and wellness support to help these young people get off the street for good. LEVEL UP and support young people experiencing homelessness today. Data has shown that sheltering at home has been the best defense for COVID-19. But, for 1,100 young people on the streets of San Francisco it’s impossible to shelter-in-place, keep physical distance, stock up on food, or even wash their hands without a home of their own. Every young person Larkin St. serves has unlimited potential. In this dialogue, we will challenge the way that we use language and begin the shift to language derived from empowerment. Through icebreakers and activities we’ll get to know more people in our community. This is a space for learning and experience. What to Expect: Information, videos, and activities on asset/deficit framing, sympathy vs empathy, and adverse childhood experiences. A safe, nonjudgmental, space to learn and ask questions. Hopefully you’ll leave with new perspectives in your humanity toolkit.
