Oakland Unified School District - RISE Community School

RISE Community School was created in the early 2000's during the ""Small Schools Movement."" After years of research it was found that the Oakland flatlands schools were underperforming their neighboring hills schools. In an effort to create new, small schools with innovative practices and high expectations 14 schools were created from 2003-2007. Through this transition the Highland Campus became the home to two schools, RISE Community School and New Highland Acamedy. Now RISE and NHA are amoung 40+ small schools that have been created in Oakland, Ca.
