Founded in 1985, the Alameda County Community Food Bank's primary purpose is to mobilize and distribute nutritious food to Alameda County's low-income residents. The Food Bank accomplishes this through its network of 300 direct-service agencies which includes food pantries, soup kitchens, residential programs, day programs, shelters, and USDA distribution sites. In FY99, the Alameda County Community Food Bank plans to distribute 10 million pounds of food which will provide approximately 667,000 meals to low-income people every month. 2555
