San Francisco Unified School District - Daniel Webster Elementary School

Daniel Webster Elementary School is a historically under-performing and under-enrolled school. 75% of its students are on free or reduced lunch and are mostly disadvantaged minorities, many of whom encounter significant obstacles to learning before they even arrive at school. Due to its declining enrollment and test scores, Daniel Webster was slated for closure by the San Francisco Unified School District just five years ago, until a group of local neighbors banded together and created a multi-part plan to save the school. They got so much support for this plan that the school was spared. Now, five years later, Daniel Webster is thriving. The dedicated staff, faculty and parents still need help from volunteers to fulfill their promise to the district, part of which included making ongoing physical improvements.
