911 day of service volunteers9/11 Day of Service

In observance of the 20th anniversary of the tragic 9/11 attacks, we invite you to support your community and join us in service at the Bay Area Meal Pack for 9/11 Day.

September 11 National Day of Service and Remembrance (also referred to as 9/11 Day) aims to provide a lasting, living and positive way for the nation to remember the 9/11 victims, rescue and recovery workers, members of our military and the many others who rose in service in response to the 9/11 attacks. We honor them by turning 9/11 into a day of unity and peace, and by helping others through our good deeds. HandsOn Bay Area has been a part of this movement for the last four years, and this year we are honored to be working with 9/11 Day and Kids Around the World to host the third Bay Area Meal Pack. Volunteers will pack 200,000 meals to be delivered to community members through the SF-Marin Food Bank.

How can you help and be a part of this movement?

We need folks willing to step up and lead other volunteers to help manage the different stations of the meal pack. You will be an integral part of the event support team and will train and guide others. You will receive a 9/11 Day T-shirt, a meal and snacks for your shift, and a unique opportunity to develop leadership skills!

Please choose one of the four types of roles available:

  • Team Leaders: Requires a 45-minute virtual training a few days prior to the event. Volunteers will be placed in different sections to manage other support team members. Must be able to lift 35-50 lbs. Great role for experienced volunteers and anyone comfortable managing others.

  • Support Team: A variety of roles will be assigned. Will be running between stations and supporting meal packing volunteers. Must be able to lift 35-50 lbs. Great role for anyone comfortable managing others.

  • Support Team - Registration & Directional: There are more chances to sit. Requires volunteers to welcome guests and use the check-in technology. Must be comfortable working with a high volume of volunteers at the same time. Great role for volunteers with physical and lifting limitations.

  • Set Up Team: Will help prepare the event space the day before on 9/10. Must be able to lift 35-50 lbs. Great role for folks new to volunteering and events.
